What is the Holistic approach to healthcare; what does it mean?
The term describes an integral, inclusive approach, which regards each being, system, or object as more than the sum of its parts. Holism is often associated with medicine, nutrition, and lifestyle. Holistic practices deal with the whole person; your entire wellbeing is taken into account – physical, emotional, spiritual, mental, social, diet and lifestyle, stresses, work/life balance and even environmental factors, etc.
The term ‘holistic’ is taken from the Greek word HOLOS meaning whole. Therefore the holistic approach involves seeing the body as an integrated organism of many parts each of which must operate accurately if the others are to do their job.
Using complementary therapies can provide time to relax and cope with everyday situations and problems in a more natural and gentle way.
Time taken out for relaxation from your busy life or schedule is vital to everyone, whether this is gardening, playing sport, reading, walking or using complementary therapies. Stress can be experienced by anyone and impacts upon every area of life reducing our enjoyment and sense of well-being. Reduction in stress has been documented and attributed to reduce illness, pain and anxiety.
There are many research papers available on the detrimental effects of stress on health and well-being; one is 'Reflexology to manage stress in the workplace': A preliminary study by Rhian C. Atkins & Philip Harris, Complementary Therapies in Clinical Practice (Volume 14; No.4, Page(s) 280-287) available at www.sciencedirect.com
Please note that as a professional complementary health practitioner I would always advise that you seek medical advice for your symptoms. I am not qualified to diagnose medical conditions and if you have any concerns about your health you should always consult your GP or other health professional. Complementary health practitioners do not claim to treat or cure a person or condition.

Gift Vouchers are available for almost all the therapies I practice, or, if you wish a Voucher can be purchased for a specific amount allowing the recipient to choose what they would prefer. All Gift Vouchers are produced individually for that personal touch, and have space to include a personal message from you. Seriously, a Gift Voucher is a lovely gift providing the recipient with a wonderful complementary therapy treatment and more importantly, time out, just for them.
Please note that complementary health therapies require a full consultation to be carried out for safety and insurance purposes. If you have any questions before purchasing a Gift Voucher please don't hesitate to either telephone or email. The contact details are to be found in the sidebar.

New Year, new Opportunities.......
As the New Year begins many of us feel compelled or pressurised into making New Year Resolutions, and very often by the middle of the month all our good intentions have fallen by the wayside.
I've made a New Year Resolution too.....and it's simply NOT to make any New Year Resolutions! Instead I'm going to be gentle with myself, consciously make time for me, even if it is just taking 15 minutes out of my day with a lovely book, or meeting a friend for a chat and a coffee. Going for a beach walk, striding out into the wind (and very possibly rain!!), but feeling in touch with nature and Mother Earth and coming home and taking stock of my blessings. Nothing earth-shattering or needing expensive new equipment, so why not give it a try?
Now is a good time to ensure that your diet is well-balanced, your hydration is good, sleep and bedtime routine serve you well, and perhaps to look into taking a good all round multi-vitamin to support the immune system. Additionally, why not try and make some home-made soup, generally chop and chuck any veg you have into a pot, sauté with a little rice bran oil or butter, season, add some vegetable stock, and then blitz when cooked (45 mins), and enjoy with crusty bread. Add a spoon of cream and swirl in for that luxury touch. Sprinkle with some parsley for the 'restaurant' look, but above all - Enjoy!!
Any time is an ideal opportunity to try a complementary health therapy, all of which support the mind, body and spirit and at the very least provide you with an interlude of 'me' time and certainly some relaxation. So, if you'd like to consider this, take a look at the therapies I offer and maybe start with a 'taster' session - Indian Head Massage is ideal. Head on over to the Email Contact Form - I look forward to hearing from you.
Corporate healthcare packages also available using Indian Head Massage or Reflexology mini sessions - if you are a local Company in the vicinity of Llanelli, Kidwelly or Pembrey please telephone or email for details.
